About this Case

Plaintiffs alleged that 2001 – 2003 Toyota RAV4s contain defective ECMs which cause the transmissions to malfunction and exhibit “harsh shift condition.”

Case Status

The parties reached a settlement in 2011. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval of the settlement in January 2012. The settlement provided relief to current and former owners and lessees of 2001 – 2003 RAV4s, including extended warranty coverage and oversight of reimbursement claims through the appeals process. Toyota is currently processing claims for reimbursement for class members who paid for repairs to their ECM and/or transmission while within the extended warranty period of 10 years and 150,000 miles.
