About this Case:
When Amanda Dougherty applied for a job at Merry Maids, Barrett Business Service, Inc. (BBSI) obtained a background check on her for her potential employer. BBSI is a company that provides staffing, human resources, and other services for businesses—essentially Merry Maids outsourced human resources functions to BBSI. As part of her job application, Ms. Dougherty completed a background check authorization from that included BBSI’s logo at the top. Ms. Daugherty alleged the authorization form BBSI presented to her failed to comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act requirement that such a disclosure be made in a stand-alone disclosure.
On November 8, 2019, the Clark County Superior Court granted final approval of a $1.5 million settlement.
