For years, corporations of all types and sizes have used mandatory arbitration agreements to stop consumers and employees from filing class actions. While the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has pushed aggressive enforcement of mandatory arbitration provisions for decades, it is now complaining about workers and consumers banding together to demand arbitration.
“This is a growing problem,” said Matt Webb of the Chamber’s Institute for Legal Reform. “It’s unfortunate. If you have a fair system, we think arbitration works very well for both sides.”
