Celebrating Successes in 2017

Terrell Marshall Law Group PLLC would like to thank its co-counsel, clients, and community partners for allowing us to work toward justice during the past year. Together we achieved the following successes:

Civil Rights

  • Brought a lawsuit with the ACLU in Lexington County, South Carolina, on behalf of people jailed solely because of their inability to pay court fines and fees, which caused the state’s Chief Justice to conduct statewide training on indigent defendants’ rights and to issue a directive resulting in lower courts’ recall of thousands of bench warrants.

Wage and Hour

  • Obtained final approval of a settlement that returned over 100 percent of illegally withheld wages to a class of truck drivers in Helde v. Knight Transportation, Inc.
  • Obtained final approval of a settlement on behalf of a group of 290 sales people who were owed overtime compensation because they had been improperly classified as “exempt” employees in Tolliver, et al. v. Avvo, Inc.
  • Obtained final approval of a settlement on behalf of 675 fruit-packing production line workers who failed to receive proper meal and rest breaks, had wages illegally withheld, and were subjected to illegal time rounding practices in Morales v. Frosty Packing Co., Inc.

Consumer

  • Negotiated a settlement for a class of Washington consumers who had been sent unlawful collection letters and illegally charged fees in Dibb, et al. v. AllianceOne Receivables Management, Inc.
  • Defeated a motion to decertify the class and obtained a ruling holding the defendant liable for locking consumers out of their homes before foreclosure proceedings had begun, in violation of Washington law, in Jordan v. Nationstar Mortgage, Inc.
  • Negotiated class action settlements ranging from $2,895,000 to $28,000,000 on behalf of consumers who received illegal robocalls.
